Parenting Support Services is a free, in-home parenting education program. The program serves families with children 0-18 years of age. Two evidence-based curriculums are utilized to support and enhance positive family functioning.
The Positive Parenting Program helps parents become effective problem solvers and be able to create a positive and safe home and learning environment.
The 5 Positive Parenting Principles:
- Creating a safe and interesting environment for children
- Creating a positive learning environment
- Using assertive (rather than coercive) discipline
- Taking care of yourself as a parent
- Having realistic developmental expectations
Circle of Security
aims to build, support, strengthen parents’ relationship capabilities to become better equipped to provide a relationship that is supportive of a secure attachment.
The Circle of Security principles are based on:
- The quality of the relationship with the child shapes the child’s development and behavior
- Parents and other attachment figures have innate wisdom and desire for their children to be safe and secure
- Parents and other attachment figures struggle without a coherent roadmap of their children’s needs
- Supporting reflection on the strength and struggles allows parents and other attachment figures to make new choices in the direction of security
Impacts:
Upon completion of the curriculum, participants report:
- A decrease in their child's behavior problems
- Improvement in consistent, healthy disciplinary style
- Strengthened parent/child relationships
